![]() ![]() I wanted to refresh myself in all the areas of teaching (kinder is really its own world) and have always wanted to be more organized. I went back to work 2 years ago in Kindergarten and just this year decided to go back to 3rd grade. I taught intermediate grades for a while before taking time off to raise my babies. This book is full of detailed info on how to manage everything from behaviors to paperwork. Wong has great ideas and ideals, but this book served much more PURPOSE for me. If I had to choose between this and the Wong book that so many had recommended to me, it would definitely be this one. Some of the tips and strategies (on classroom set-up and routines and procedures mostly) got put into immediate use in my classroom, which is much more than I can say for some of the other books I have read. I have read many books about teaching, and this has probably been the one that I have found most useful so far. Written with a very 'real' viewpoint, the author talks about how certain systems and ideas started in her classroom, how she implemented them (or tried to), and how the evolved over time into systems that were manageable and useful to her. Luckily, I got this book just a few months into my first-year of teaching, and was able to get my piles and stacks of papers sorted and organized before they took over my corner of the classroom.Īlso has good suggestions on organizing and managing classroom libraries and the check-out procedures most commonly used. I can imagine this section would even be very useful to some experienced teachers who find themselves occasionally sucked into the paper-trap that is the life of a teacher. My most useful takeaway from this book was how to set up your desk, file cabinets, and turn-in boxes in such a way that allows you to avoid clutter and keep all of your papers organized. Very useful information for a new teacher on setting up all aspects of your classroom. Learn how to create a vision for your classroom and TEACH for it! It will guide you through each step of communicating and reinforcing your expectations.
